The following newsflash from today is paraphrased from a German news site:
An apparently mentally ill man has taken a number of hostages in an office building in Amsterdam. He entered the building (the Rembrandt tower) around 9.30h, possibly armed with a rifle and explosives. He sent faxes to Dutch TV stations claiming he wanted to protest against the introduction of widescreen TVs, forcing people to buy new TV sets. Up to four people are held hostage. Banners saying 'We mislead' and 'We lie' have been hung from windows in the Rembrandt tower probably on the man's orders.
People working in the office building described the situation as tense. The man is described as an 'elder, well-dressed man'.
Police believe that the man had the wrong address. Possibly his attack was geared towards the Philips company (which among other things builds widescreen TVs) which had its offices in that tower until a year ago when they moved next door into the Breitner tower.
I leave it to you to figure out the UAbility of this.
Robin
