I agree. I'd have to put Jailbreak or Joy & Sorrow at the
top of my list. I suppose Jailbreak is on top because of
its success at conventions, but story-wise and juicy bits,
I still think Joy & Sorrow is one of the best scenarios
I've read.

I've only run it once. I suggest using the pregens. The
whole purpose of the scenario is that each PC is sick of
his/her life and sees little worth writing home about. As
long as each player has a character mired in ennui and
depression, you should do fine.
Personally, I think residents in one of those annoying
controlled suburbs are good characters for this. However,
Sonja, you are not from the States. I recall a discussion
on how much non-Americans understand these neighborhoods.
I believe the consensus is that Australians know this
concept all too well also. So if your players are not
familiar with the controlling nature of these neighborhood
associations, then you may want to generate your own PCs
that match their paradigm.
Bit of spoilage here.....just in case:
When I ran it, I had a bit of a problem with the writing
assignment. A couple of players focused only on what was
available on their character sheets. I actually hoped they
would create a whole new story. And some of them did. But
it seemed like the other players were a bit frustrated at
the lack of happy thoughts on their character sheets they
could describe in the book. Something you might want to
watch out for.
Hope that helps.
