He didn't much like the way the Statosphere was developing, so he took the
leading applicants for what was shaping up to be the new member and killed
them all. Basically, if they get to choose the shape of the new Universe,
they could choose to fool around with who -he- is, and to stop that
happening he had to prevent the ascension of, hrrrrm, say a Turing style
thinking machine? He wanted to make sure the Godhead didn't have mechanical
intelligences in it.

This leads to the ascension of the first Ubermensch, literally the superman,
and all heroes channel this superman.

After the Hiroshima bombing, he discovered that even low-level EMP is fatal
to Mechaincal Intelligences, and so he stopped wandering around killing the
creators of ME, and instead went about releasing large amounts of
electromagnetic radiation, for example by getting us all to wire our houses,
so that they are all surrounding in a sterilising field.

When the Compte finds the Modern Life solution to the ME problem, he gets
rid of the superheroes by ensuring the ascension of a new and different
ubermensch, the first mechanical man, by which he meant cyborgs where
technology was tamed and controlled by human will. I suggest the earliest
bubble boy as the ascendant guy, or Lee Majors.
