The OTO was founded by Aleister Crowley, who previously had been a
Golden Dawn member. When the Golden Dawn came apart due to internal
squabble (something in which Crowley played a part), Crowley left and
founded his own group. Well, he actually founded more than one, and the
OTO was one of them.

Crowley is an interesting character, but as far as real-world magicians
go, I prefer Jack Parsons. Can't beat a guy who is both a satanist and a
rocket scientist.
