A couple of his lesser known works come across like
Promethea minus the superhero bits (which seem to be
increasingly less common, anyway).  Snakes and Ladders, for
example, is all about mixing western occultism with the
history of a specific location, and screams "cliomancy" in
my mind (as does one particular issue of From Hell).  One of
his spoken word CDs, A Highbury Working, is similar as well.
