Here in Australia, it's not too difficult to get your jaws around the
wildlife. Personally, I've had kangaroo, emu, buffalo and crocodile; camel
is next on my culinary hitlist, but I'll probably have to go to Alice
Springs to get it. Its menu name is "Jurassic Lamb".

Still, you gotta love the kangaroo and the emu; there aren't many countries
where you can walk into a restaurant and devour their national symbols
(bald eagle drumsticks, anyone?). I hear that they used to in the UK,
until they ran out of lions and unicorns. #%o)

I doubt that they'd serve komodo dragon, to be honest. Although
notionally, they're edible (Australian Aboriginals used to eat goanna, a
close but much smaller relative), komodo dragons carry bacteria that are
rapidly and decisively harmful to humans. You'd want to raise them in a
tightly-controlled environment for a start, and your slaughtering process
would have to be rigourously hygienic. OTOH, I guess that you could just
feed them antibiotic-laced chickens.

"'Kevin,' David interrupted, 'what the Germans should have done
was show the Russians a dead cat and ask them to explain it.'

"'That would have stopped the Soviet offensive right there,' I said.
"Zhukov would still be trying to account for the cat's death.'"
