I'd argue that, Timothy. Certainly the Aussie dollar is fucked for buying
imported goods - games, books, comics, cars, whatever.
But for buying locally produced goods & services, it's pretty much the same
as the US dollar, and occasionally slightly better. Food, movie tickets,
fuel, medical care, all the stuff that's generated in Australia stands up
about the same. And rent's a whole lot cheaper here, compared to cities of
the same size in the US.
I've made about $4000 US this financial year writing gaming supplements.
That's no more than pocket money for US writers. But that becomes close to
$8000 for me, and I've been living comparitively well off it - enough so
that writing RPG books is a much more viable source of income for me than
for Americans.
