Greets and Salutations all about. :)
I'm running a UA campaign with a group that's never played any sort of
role-playing game whatsoever and it's been an interesting experience so far.
One player went from "oh god what the hell is this" to "so we're getting
together tomorrow, right...RIGHT?" in all of a session. And I haven't even
gotten to the weird stuff yet. :)
That being said, my basic plan for the game is to have the invading reality
of the occult underground slowly infiltrate the character's (mostly) normal
lives -- your basic Circle of Friends type game. One of the major themes
I'm hoping to use is hubris and gnosis -- essentially everything you know is
wrong, and when you think you've got it right, you're *definitely* wrong.
I've decided that the player's first encounters will be with clueless cabals
like the True Church of Satan. One character will has a hook via her job (a
social worker) and the other's character is pretty much based around seeking
out cults and other groups for his own edification.
What I'm curious about is how other people have used the Church and how
things have ended up. I agree with the sourcebook's statement that what
Rebecca and her friends are doing is the metaphysical equivalent of playing
with matches -- and they're going to eventually get burned.
How have clueless cabals been used in your campaigns? Who's most likely to
stand up and notice what the kids have been up to? The Sleepers obviously
come to mind but I think that's a little heavy for this group's first real
adventure. Maybe some well-meaning church members get involved, ultimately
leading to a representitive from the Order of St. Cecil getting sent?
Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated. :)
Thanks!
