The tidiest explanation would be that practicing pornomancy violates the
archetype's taboo. I've written up a Gambler avatar, which is all about
getting the better of chance. Practicing entropomancy violates Gambler
taboo, because Entropomancy is about submitting to chance. Bodybags and
Gamblers get along fine, but they can't cross over.
>The Avatar is about a way of being. The adept is about the act.
Exactly backwards. You can channel an archetype without particularly
believing in its agenda -- though, to be sure, it's much easier to follow a
strict set of behaviors if you believe in them. But you could be a Savage
who secretly longs for a palm pilot and a BMW -- as long as you do the ACT,
you get the results. That's the benefit of going with the flow.
Adepts, on the other hand, have to be obsessed. They have to REALLY
BELIEVE what they're doing. That's why magick is generally more powerful
and certainly more versatile than avatar channels. It's just much harder.
That's the problem with going against the flow.

If the reinstatement of capital punishment was clearly doing nothing to
reduce the number of murders in those states permitting it, it certainly
appeared to be cutting down on the number of confessions.
