Dear UA List Administrator:

You've been doing a great job with this list, but recently, things have slipped 
a little. In the past ten UA digests I received, I ran into at least three or 
four posts that contained at least a little information that pertained to the 
role-playing game "Unknown Armies". As you know, this kind of content is 
inappropriate to this list, which is a "general discussion, flames and inane, 
uninformed assumptions about different cultures and random shit" mailing list. 
Please be more careful with your administration in the future.

Ahem.

That being said, I'm going to actually (gasp!) talk about UA a little. 

I saw a movie last night which I took to be one of G&J's inspirations for the 
NG: "Amateur", directed by Hal Hartley. An amnesiac whose identity seems to be 
held by a mysterious porn star named "Sophia" ... it was a standard little 
Gnostic parable, but it did a good job of casting the Sophia as an elusive, 
unattainable porn star just like UA does. I loved the other parts of the movie, 
too -- a pair of accountants who work as enforcers for an arms dealer, a 
nymphomaniac ex-nun, a sadistic pimp who forgets his identity and gets 
reincarnated as a nice guy... can anyone say plutomancers, pornomancers and the 
House of Renunciation? The fit was so close that I assumed the UA guys had seen 
it before writing the game.

I'm hoping to use the CoNG in a campaign as soon as I get it started. It's a 
campaign centered on Food and Hunger (I've been lazy about getting the notes 
together to post them to the list, sorry). I had this idea that the CoNG owns a 
small farm an hour from Chicago that they use for "rural" re-enactments, and 
they have turned an apple tree on the farm into a magical artifact: after 
charging it up with a re-enacted orgy around the tree, the apples become ripe 
with the power of Desire. The Cult uses them to get powerful people (e.g., the 
local politicians) into their pocket to avoid getting hassled: they arrange for 
a town councilman to eat one of the apples, and he subsequently develops an 
insatiable craving for one of these apples every day. The symbolism here echoes 
Eden, Asgard (the Aesir ate magical apples which kept them immortal), Eris, etc. 
I imagine the PCs will get drawn in when one of the Cult's "victims" decides to 
get sneaky and tries to have the apple analyzed in the hopes of finding his own 
stash somewhere. He hires the PCs to investigate the apple's origins, etcetera.

I'm looking forward to having a PC witness a Pornomancy ritual without knowing 
what's going on: it will be a re-enactment of a scene from "The Sexorcist", and 
will appear to be an occult occurence. The PC will see priestesses in robes 
making a blood sacrifice and summoning Satan, who will show up and start an orgy 
with the priestesses, all the while spouting cheesy-ass porno dialogue ("Yeah 
baby, suck the cock of Satan! Suck my big evil cock! Oh yeah...")
