With Har Megiddo coming up a few days ago, I thought that a few details
might be useful.
I found some notes that I took in one of my old rpg exercise books; I think
I was going to use Har Megiddo in aa Mummy game.

I have a stack of those old books, but they're mostly filled with freeform
characters.

Har Megiddo

Har Megiddo, "Mount of Megiddo", is a ruined hilltop 15 km nother of
Nazareth, and has been referred to as "Armageddon." See Revelations 16:16.
It has been home to a succession of 25 communities, dating back to 7,000
BCE. Human figures are sketched on rocks from the sixth millennium BCE, to
which archaeologists attribute a probable cultic or magical significance.

Har Megiddo once provided a vital gateway for a network of roads that linked
the Middle East, carrying long-distance trade and military traffic.
At the bedrock of the mound upon which Armageddon stands, simple cave-like
structures were carved out of the landscape. They remained until 3000 BCE.
Later, sanctuaries made from unhewn stones were bult on top of them with
highly sophisticated construction methods.

Between 2500 - 2100 BCE, Egypt, rapidly growing in power, reduced Har
Megiddo to ruins more than 20 times.
During the reign of Solomon (971 - 932 BCE) Har Megiddo was made capital of
a major province of Israel, expanding to an area twice the size of
Jerusalem. A secret underground system of tunnels channelled spring water
inside the city walls, making Har Megiddo virtually self-sufficient.
A terrible battle in 609 BCE left Har Megiddo unfortified and exposed, and
its population gradually dwindled.
Har Megiddo was abandoned between 400 BCE - 350 BCE.
Napolean stood at Har Megiddo before the battle that thwarted his attempt to
conquer the East, and marvelled that "all the armies of the world could
assemble their forces on this vast plain."
In 1918, General Allemby secured a legendary victory over the turks, and was
bestowed with the title "Allemby of Armageddon."
