That's a pretty cool idea. I live just over a bluff
from one of the worst masacre sights in Colorado
history, Sand Creek. In fact, there's a local gaming
club that meets very near the sight of the actual
massacre. I'll be sure to make Stuart include it when
he writes the Colorado Springs city swap.
Also, Colorado used to be heavily controlled by the
Klu Klux Klan. There was this doctor up in Denver in
the 30s and 40s named John Galen Locke. Pictures show
him flanked by two enormous great danes or mastifs,
like some sort of reverse Fu Manchu.
Imagine playing a guy who's had race problems in their
life already, a Cliomancer, who gathers a charge from
this guy's old HQ (they met in the Brown Palace Hotel,
one of Colorado's major historical sights.) He might
get horrible dreams about being drug before Dr. Locke
and his henchmen while two "Mexicans" race Johnny
River's two white corvettes around downtown Denver
(most of my family has worked for the Palace and my
Uncle Mike and Tommy Gonzales used to drive Johnny
River and his wife's twin cars around Denver whenever
he came to stay there -which was often. They'd both
seen Bullit over 50 times.)
Anyway, personal weirdness aside, it would be a fun
monkeywrench to throw into some Cliomancer's life,
every now and then, to bring up nasty truths or side
histories when they go dragging their nets through
historical places.
It might also be a great plothook. A cliomancer gets
used to picking up this postcognitive backwash and
gets a vision of buried treasure interlinked with a
decades-old crime. If the Cliomancer pursues the
images, they lead to richer and richer sources of
historical charges and deeper into a ring of murders
which is still being covered up to this day.
