Well, the point was that The Comte looks at all humans as inferior to him, and he talks down to them, makes references to things they couldn't possibly know (ancient literature from societies we no longer even know exist, for example), etc.  I imagine once he might have been a friendly father figure like Wonka, but became more and more cynical as no Charlie showed up and all he found were varieties of the other rotten little kids.  So he becomes a grumpy old man (taken to the millionth degree) and looks upon most people as more of a nuisance than they're worth dealing with.
