To answer that question, it seems to me I prefer games with some similiar
aspects. I like games where character's never get anything special to prevent
their deaths. I like good settings and simple, flexible systems. So far, my
favorite games are Call of Cthulhu, Unknown Armies, and Blue Planet. All have
Good Settings, Simple systems, and character mortality. The books are
well-written and not prone to vapid, pretentious waxing about the "art" of
roleplaying. Heck, the GM advice in the CoC keeper's book and the UA main
book are the best I've ever come across. I'm also a fan of quick, deadly
combat if I have to have combat at all. Blue Planet, Call of Cthulhu, and UA
all deliver on this. I have Feng Shui, and I think it's a well-done game, but
I just can't gamemaster a lot of combat. As a player, I get very bored when
combat stretches out. (Bad memories of "Aberrant" games) I prefer
investigative gameplay- which, again, CoC, BP, and UA deliver in spades.
