It's not so different here in the US. Rural areas are
perceived as being more racially intollerant than big,
liberal cities, but bigotry and violence errupt in the
suburbs as often, although in different ways, as the
backwoods areas.
I've succumbed to racial tensions several times in my
life. They can be hard to avoid, at best. There's
this wave of hatred and a feeling of strength that
comes with it. I've never actually hurt anyone, but I
said some things once it took me years to make up for.
And I've seen the sweetest people in the world do the
most horrible things because they grew up just knowing
that all them colored people steal. Or that gays are
all lascivious freaks. Or that being from Mexico
means being stupid. Or that there's no physical way
for an Asian to differentiate between R and L.
It's when I remember times like this I find it hard to
reconcile magic of desire or the Demogogue's powers.
I don't have any problem beleiving it exists, but I
can't imagine any instance where it would truly be
used for good. It's a times like that I want to play
Father Carillo and have a good wash.
