i've played in a game where people had "luck", represented by little bits of
paper. they could use up their luck to avoid bad things - dodge attacks,
ignore damage, have bullets miss them, etc - but they had to tear up a "luck
point" each time. so they knew they could keep out of trouble at first, but
if they ran out of luck (literally) they could be in for a rough time later
in the game
