Actually I'm wrong here - if you say to someone "I'll buy your socks" that
person is the contractee, not the public.  If you go on the net and say
"I'll buy your socks!" that's an offer.  It's not "I'd like to buy some
socks" now is it?  It's a direct promise to purchase.
