I thought the character was more interesting with this particular weakness. 
It also added to explain why so few of his children (all daughters) had been
either mediocre sorcerers or possessed no sorcery.  

Further, I like the background as written and don't see why I should have to
change it.  It also won't shut Fat Stupid Jerk up.  He'll talk about how
he'd have done it or some other such stuff.

The real problem is that he can't take off his GM hat to play in a game. 
Now, if he were this really interesting GM who ran killer games, I wouldn't
care.  The problem is that his games are boring insipid snorefests that
ignore the players in favor of a bunch of NPC's doing everything important
and the PC's half the time don't even see it...
