yeah, i find it really frustrating. it snaps me right back out of character
if someone starts gibbering on about stuff they read in one of the
sourcebooks. a guy i know and have played with a lot over the years is
terrible for this, particularly when it comes to another white wolf. he owns
nearly everything WW have ever done and has absorbed all that trivia into
his brain where it sits, waiting to be used by his characters. i gave up
running games with him in (unless it's a system he knows nothing about, but
then he's generally not interested in playing), and when i play with him
i've taken to chucking dice at his head when he contests the GM. the most
frustrating thing though is that when he's actually in character, or running
a game himself, he's a really good roleplayer.
