That's basically it. Archetypes are pretty broad. You can have a Fool who's obsessed with acting out hilariously. He consciously apes "Dumb and Dumber" and goes around taking deliberate pratfalls. Another Fool is far more serious about the transgressive nature of the Fool -- "doing what others don't dare and saying what they won't." What others consider "stupidity" is "simplicity" to this radical Fool. Who's right? They both are.
Eugene LaRue believes the Messenger carries "truth." Dermott Arkane believes the Messenger carries "facts." They're both within the boundaries of the role, but their philosophical differences are pretty extreme.
One of the divisions between adept and avatar (something I'd like to stress more powerfully) is that you have to BELIEVE to be an adept. The universe has to make sense to you in a particular way. To be an avatar, you just have to be in the right position and take the right actions.
