[UA] Avatars and Godwalkers

I've always assumed that the twist wasn't necessarily so much that it broke
taboo. The taboo for the messenger is that he can't actively deny the
truth. Arcane doesn't lie. He tells the truth as he sees it about events
to occur. There's a huge difference. The imagery can change provided it's
tied to your take on the image, but that doesn't mean you do inappropriate
things.

For example: The current godwalker of the masterless man is deeply
ensconsed in the imagery of the ancient samurai. He drives a jaguar,
carries a sword, etc. "Duke" Stetson is another avatar of the masterless
man, an american one. His take on the masterless man is the gunfighter.
His change still requires him not to "serve" anyone and not to settle down,
but he could, for example, round up friends to take on somebody in a way
that wouldn't fit with the samurai interpretation.

I had a plot in my last ua game about an American avatar of the masterless
man trying to challenge the current type, but first he had to deal with the
current avatar. He had this entire ritual "gunfight at the ok corral" set
to go. The players had agreed to join the posse. Had they succeeded, I'd
decided that the ritual of deposing the masterless man was in and of itself
enough to put him over the top and immediately ascend. The hysterical part
is that he didn't want to ascend necessarily, he just wanted to become the
new godwalker...

Hi, I was taking a closer look at avatars and godwalkers the other day and
I
began to wonder: it seems that avatars channel some aspect of their
archetype, so essentially they are within the limits set by the archetype.
But godwalkers must deviate from the archetype by giving it a new and
unique
spin in order to ascend in place of the old one. The question is, when
avataring is such a central part of one's life, how should an avatar be
able
to play with the rules up until 98% and then suddenly change their take on
the archetype as soon as they become the godwalker in order to ascend? Did
Dermott Arcane play by the messenger's rules and become the Heisenberg
Messenger just recently? Or do avatars in some cases possibly deviate
considerably from their archetypes on lower levels of power as well, even
as
  far as godwalkers might?

  Any comments or suggestions?
