I've never been able to resist picking at scabs.

I agree, though, Evel Kneivel is THE image of
spectacular daring in the 70s. I credit the entire
show "That's Incredible" to kind of things Evel made
us think about. (I also credit the time I broke my
sister's arm by landing on her with my bike in an
ill-judged attempt to jump an arroyo near our house to
the sequined daredevil.)

How dare you call me that! My dad was a supply
seargent in 'Nam, dammit, and I sold my soul to a
huge, evil corporation a long, long time ago. I've
done it more times than I can count, in fact (although
I prefer to think of it as something akin to "The Skin
Game.") I read an article in some stupid paper with
too many club ads back in portland describing how
"purple is not cool" and started wearing purple all
the time. And I've never read Dante's "Divine Comedy"
OR Milton's "Paradise Lost." And I'm just as happy to
see the US profit from stomping on some angry foreign
nation as anybody, as long as I get my cut. I just
very rarely get my cut.

This was also the time of Carlos Casteneda and
speculative history. I beleive I mentioned Vietnam
earlier, as well. That was definitely very big in the
early seventies. Pictures of monks setting themselves
afire on television (to protest your own damn country)
is something you can not afford to leave out of your
70s game.
