It could be said that anything that's not D&D in today's market is going to
find a small, cultivated audience. :) Comparison between one game of
monster-hunting and the other is left as an exercise to the reader.

No - but when you can simultaneously market a single game to the people who
love the games you put out and those who HATE the games you put out, it
gives you a singular advantage. :)

All true. (Despite any kidding, I did think HUNTER was well written. It's
just not a game I want to play. And - strictly as a fan - I don't think it
adds much to the WoD.)
