How many people on this list have gotten into a brawl armed or otherwise.
For those (most to all) of you who haven't, bar brawls almost never end in
unconsciousness. They last two to three swings until someone is knocked to
the floor or a security (bouncer) shows up and tosses them into the street
or has them taken away by the cops.
When a beer bottle really get busted over a guys head, he doesn't pass out
nicely. He gets a severe head trauma followed by near lethal lacerations to
the head, shoulders, and back. My mother once broke a bottle over a guys
head and put him in a coma which a week later he was still in.
Street brawls rarely go until unconsciousness either. They go until one
person stops fighting and hands stuff over or stops fighting and runs away,
or the cops show up and take them both away.
I've been mugged twice. My buddy Tony got mugged once and my buddy Loren
got mugged once. NONE of the FOUR scuffles ended in unconsciousness. Tony
got knocked down, the muggers took his stuff and ran away. Loren's
assailant grabbed Loren's bag and ran off with it. I verbally accosted one
individual until twenty or thirty onlookers were watching and he ran, and I
hit the other one with a pipe wrench and he ran away.
It's also worth noting blunt trauma only causes unconsciousness if things
are really bad. Hitting a man in the back of the head will almost never
cause unconsciousness. It will frequently cause subdeural hematoma and that
can cause death.
Just about the only consistant way to knock a man unconscious without
killing him is to put him in a sleeper hold, something UA has rules for.
