[UA] Dr. West, I presume

In a game I just ran at a convention, I had someone
who was, for all intents and purposes, a Pickman-esque
Lovecraftian ghoul (this is a pretty standard
character, even in my CoC and Mage plotlines. As the
Violent Femmes might say, "I like ghouls, I like
ghouls!")

Anyway, the rationale I had for putting them in a UA
game was to play up the post-modern side of things.
They were using a kind of bizarre "mask magic" (what's
that school called again? It's in PoMoMa.) They were
actually gaining ghoul-like powers and appearances
inspired by Sandy Peterson's game.

The players actually ran across a couple of Call of
Cthulhu rule books in their investigations (the PCs
were a group of reality cops called "The Kook List," a
cabal inspired by a teeny-tiny paragraph in one of Ken
Hite's Suppressed Transmission articles.) They were
the Keeper's Compendium (with appropriate references
circled in red and blue Bic) and a copy of that 1940s
campaign, I forget the name now. The guy turning into
a ghoul didn't really have a chance to find out that
his subterranean friends might just have been some
seriously addled magicians, but I always leave the
opportunity in any game for things to get very
personal.

PS. I've chased Dr. Moreau in one of Anderson's games,
before.
