Hellboy and Abe Sapien would both make good PCs, or NPCs, really.  Just to mess with people, I'd throw him into normal superhero campaigns as well as horror campaigns, as it certainly seems there are superheroes about ('The Torch of Liberty' - kinda like the Golden Age Green Lantern - shows up in one story, and there's Lobster Johnson, and there's a crossover with Batman and Starman - another comic that's occasionally got good bits to use in games like UA).

In the on TP the creator thanks Jack Kirby and H.P. Lovecraft, which is an odd juxtaposition, but also sums up the comic rather well.
