The Church was a sort of protection racket. There was quite a bit that set
Luther off, but the selling of indulgences to high ranking nobility to pay
off atrocities pretty much was the sticking point.

Mmm... Divisive Irritant.  If anything, he was known for his wit, his
sense of humor, and his ability to really, really, really piss people off.
