I'd play up the aspect of occult cabals claiming to have a long and secret history, but really they just pretty much make it up.  Much like the bit with the Atlanteans in the main book.  Certainly, much of what I've read of occultism could be seen that way (I don't know whether it was that way or not, but it's interesting to see the histories as lies whereas other games might take them as truth).
