I'm rather partial to Kim Newman's stuff, but considering that his most 
well-known novel has Dracula "winning" in London  and becoming the Prince 
Consort (leading to all sorts of vampire fun - Prime Minister Ruthven, 
anyone?) his stories are better read for the style than for story ideas.

Kim Newman and Clive Barker were much bigger inspirations for my Storyteller 
Gaslight freeform than, say, Anne Rice.
