I tried something like that in my Usurper archetype, on the UArchive. If the
Usurper takes the place of a suitable archetype who has a distinct position
(like the True King), he can swap his Avatar: Usurper skill for the Avatar:
True King.

Some of your examples, though, are probably more two-archetypes-in-conflict
situations rather than transitions between paths. Just because a Pilgrim's
master is killed doesn't mean he's got the Masterless Man's
eternally-looking-but-never-finding-a-new-cause schtick. He can try to keep
on Pilgrimming if he makes that choice. Ditto the Demagogue becoming a
Trickster.

It's a nice idea though...and might work well with "families" of
archetypes....two or three related archetypes. Glancing over the UArchive, I
note Jared Sorenson's already got something like this in the Gunslinger.
" he embodies the warrior ideal: strong, proud, honorable and compassionate.
in fact, the gunslinger is often linked with another archetypal figure; that
of the orphan. as a role-model and authority figure, he often becomes a
father-figure to the orphan...eventually training him in the ways of battle
so that someday, he may have a successor. "
