"I'm trying to find archetypes that could plausibly be ascending in our
present society. One of the final three may be Alex Abel depending on how
things work out. Hard to say."
There are two possible archetypes I am currently thinking about for my game.
One is the Mute Artist; the artist who doesn't have anything to say and who
just assembles whatever he thinks fit into a collage that other people like
to call art. You know, the way Dave McKean creates digital images and
suddenly everyone else does the same? (Not that I want to denigrate Dave's
art - I'm not worthy and all that). I am thinking of having a millennial
arts convention (I'm a bit behind the times with my campaign) which is all
about functionless art, and one of those artists might be contesting for the
place of the current Artist archetype.
Yes, I know, it's not a new archetype then. But the next one is, I think:
This is so alien to us that I can't even come up with a nice catch phrase. I
am thinking of the Freebie-Giver, a person who can do something and does it
for free, not because he's an altruist but because he can. Words like Open
Source come into mind. People who program software they give away for
naught. Linus Thorwald is a possible candidate. This new presumptive
archetype will be under attack by the Merchant; see the Microsoft campaign
against Open Source for instance.
