I used to like those scenes, too.  I also liked the
end of the first issue, when the Maxx character chides
himself for talking out loud.  Unfortunately, I
couldn't follow most of the story and some of it just
wasn't that interesting.  I tended to like the sidreal
characters better than the Maxx or his counsellor. 
Oh, and, Mr. Gone, of course.
