[UA] (OT) Avenging the Avengers

I didn't see that much humour in the film at all, that
is, I didn't see that much which was funny. I thought
the voice over by McNee as the poor, misfiled
invisible agent had some charm to it, but the rest of
the film was, at best, forced. Fienes and Thurman had
no screen chemistry, either, which is odd and Sean
Connery's performance was strictly bottom rung. Now,
this may have been the fault of the editor or, I
suspect, the lackluster vision of the director,
Jeremiah Chechik. May I remind you that he also
directed (eugh!) Diabolique and that "Tall Tale" thing
for Disney, IIRC. The only thing I like that he's
directed is Benny and Joon.

As far as running UA with Ironic Humour, well, I've
been a fan of O'Henry since I was a little boy.
Frustration is the humourous side of failure and we
all know UA is all over that. The Naked Goddess
videotape being hinted at as unattainable, Iconomancy
turning stalkers into powerful magicians and the fact
that the fate of the universe rests in a man who was a
liar, prankster and cheat during the 1700s has a
certain sense of backhanded justice to it. Of course,
some people think this approach is a little too goofy
for their taste.

And, quite frankly, a refined villain who offers tea
to the superspies set against him ranks as neither
unusual nor particularly refreshing.

Also, and here's the thing which makes me a bad gamer,
I suspect, I don't watch an action movie for the
fights. I watch it for the stunts and the way it
bends reality into a much weirder, faster track.
