[UA] None Of Them Knew They Were Robots

I have an idea I'm going to try the next time a pc dies.
I'm gonna let him create a automaton (probably an perpetual motion type)
without him knowing it.
My players doesn't have much knowledge of the ua world plus they trust
me enough so I think I can get away with alot.
I think I will have him wake up not remembering anything, not his name,
nada.
The idea is that some mechanomancer has turned him into a automata and
set him loose for some reason.

Now I'm asking if anybody has done something like this before?
And to give me all your thoughts you possible can think of on this.
