Don't laugh, but there was a pretty good scenario for
a Star Trek rpg a while back in GDW's old magazine.
The crew awoke observing some sort of solar flare and
became aware of missing time. It turns out that these
are some of Mudd's robot duplicates or something that
accidentally survived the central computer going
ga-ga. The entire Enterprise is a fake and the fake
ship's computer has sacrificed itself to give her
"children" semi-independant awareness. Or it was a
personality conflict or something. I remember it as
being a neat idea when I was younger, anyway.

Okay, actually, the fun part I remember was that our
GM included a Richard Keel robot running around the
lower levels and scaring everybody. I also remember
figuring out the problem and having every single
member of the crew start saying "Working..." when
anyone asked them anything.

Make sure to include Peter Gabriel's "Salsbury Hill"
in your soundtrack if you go with the robot idea.
