There's a scene in one of the old Vincent Price/Peter Lorre movie (one warping together several stories by E.A. Poe) in which a down and out bum and a rich, high class snob have a wine tasting contest.  They each try to identify a wine by taste, and the snob thinks he's got it easy, but the drunk from the gutter is able to identify wines to absurd details (like which part of the vineyard the grapes came from, etc).  I imagine this as a sort of dipsomantic duel, or perhaps just the drunk was an adept.  

Of course, you could follow a similar system as he one proposed, but include things like rare moonshine and cheap but powerful and hard to find liquors as well for the lower class boozehounds.
