It followed the lead of the comic line in telling a story (or a series
of stories) about the Lament Configuration, a manifestation of which
was the Lemarchand Puzzle Box.  The idea, as I've been told, is that
the last descendant of Lemarchand decides to end the family's evil
once and for all.  We were supposed to have seen the Box in various
eras, but sadly the result is horribly muddled.  The best I can figure
is that at some point, someone in the studio looked it over and said,
"WAAAAYYYY too confusing," and pitched half the script (the part that
made sense) out the door.  In other words, it never had a chance.

Personally, I was let down simply by the fact that Pinhead continued
to be in the movies past Hellbound.
