Sure, I'll concede that nowhere near all legendary vampires need their
home soil, but it's nearly impossible to make *any* generalization about
all vampire stories other than that they need the bodily fluids of the
human, and even that only because that's the criteria used to group them
as vampire stories.
I mean, you're dealing with a bunch of largely unrelated myths from dozens
of different cultures. The fact that they have one thing in common
doesn't mean there will be that many other similarities.
Still, all I was trying to do was give examples of the idea of maintaining
a connection with a given place with a bunch of soil from there, and I
think I basically succeeded at that.
