This reminds me of the 1500s prophesy of an astrologer
named Stoeffler. He claimed that, since all the
planets would be in Pisces (all the known planets in
the mid 1500s, anyway), the world would end by water
(on which date I don't rightly remember.)
Anyway, Stoeffler's patron, Count Von Iggleheim (I'm
sure I've got the name right), beleived Stoeffler and
had a huge ark (three or four stories high) built at
enormous expense. It sprinkled a little on
Stoeffler's proposed date but, when nothing else
happened, the anxious crowd who had gathered to escape
the deluge stoned Count Von Iggleheim to death.
I always imagined he was a forefather of Rebecca
DeGhoule.
