    Well, you can't discount the first few seasons of Buffy, which used
B-movie monsters to reflect real-life issues.

    Also, there was a Tales From the Darkside episode, "Seasons of Belief,"
where at Christmas two kids were teased by their parents about a fictional
monster called The Grither.
