And, if everyone knows the (supposed) urban legend about the magic gun, then they might be less likely to spread it as fact. He just has to through that bit in the spell when he casts it, that the magic gun is a myth, and no one will believe whatever they do hear about it. This might contradict the other ideas abotu why, though perhaps not. I bet the OU would be full of lots of other people chasing down urban legends.
