Oh, you can play an adept with a low Soul stat.  You're just an adept with unreliable powers.

I'll confess that another "invisible rule" that sort of popped up while writing UA was the notion that you meet very few charming, socially adept smoovies who are also magickally In The Know.  In fact, I think there's a line about how most adepts were poring over dusty grimoires and sacrificing chickens while other folks were practicing for job interviews and going to the Prom.
