I think I'd put the chakras in weird little out of the way places. A
few examples:
Hamtramck, Michigan: founded in the early 20th century by Polish
immigrants, it was once the largest Polish city in the world. It is
completely surrounded by Detroit, but remains a city in its own right.
The older inhabitants still speak a weird hybrid dialect of English &
Polish.
The Company Town: I'm blanking on the name, but NPR (a great source for
real world weirdness) reported on a town that was inhabited by more
corporations than human beings; it had been a bit of unincorporated
land which several companies seized upon for tax purposes.
There are offices, fast food places, etc, but only about 12 people
actually live there. A city where legal (fictional) people outnumber
the living--some weird urbanomantic nexus?
How about the towns where they have the weird tourist things, like the
Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota?
I know Chicago was the heart, but what if the heart was simply in
Chicago, embodied in some weird little neighborhood?
