Two points recently raised by Jo, over in Pyramid:
1. How many members of this mailling list are female?
2. [The Woman Everybody Can Have But You]
Jo> You know, that is a truly sexist archetype. By which I mean
Jo> that no woman would ever see herself as that or even agree
Jo> that it fitted.
That's an element of the game world: Sometimes you Ascend
because you fit the role perfectly. The implication I get is
that the Naked Godess probably didn't see herself that way-- it
was the way all of her fans (and the universe) saw her, and she
typified it so well that she Ascended. I believe the similiar
Archetype that being vyed for by Alex Able was "The Man Who Has
What You Should Have."
So, in short, I agree with you that the Ascension of the Naked
Goddess is sexist... because the forces pushing her to Ascend
were sexist. So "setting-sexist."
Is it also "real-world-sexist"? I don't think so. All the
glimpses we've seen of the NG's life and times on earth are sad
and pathetic. Porn is not glorified, but it's degrading nature
is exposed for all to see.
The most disturbing fact, once you think about it, is that this
sex-objectified/victimized adult entertainer is now one of the
most powerful images of the Collective Unconscious.
Thoughts?
