Wowsers. I know someone recently recommended this comic on the list, and
let me emphatically echo that praise. Promethea's getting a love/hate
reaction among the fans, with many of the detractors accusing Moore of
couching plot in pseudo-mystical rantings. This issue, IMO, changes
everything.

At the end of #9, Sophie, after seeking out a magus to learn magick, agrees
to let Promethea (her alter ego) do the rumpy pumpy with wrinkled old magus
guy. Havign read that, I wondered what would happen next. SURELY they
wouldn't show that in a comic--but they did, and more.

See, I understood the Mystic Hemaphrodite thingee, but I never really got
the whys and the wherefores until this very issue, and it changed my whole
perspective on magick in general. It was a weird bit of synchonicity that
they're discussing the various chakras at the same time we were (leading to
the great closing exchange between Sophie and her friend, who was waiting
outside: "So, how far did you go?" "Only to just above the crown of my
head. Jeez, what do you think I am?")

Of course, the best exchange is shared between the magus and Sophie, as he's
handing her some Crowley to read:

S: Wasn't Crowley sort of...evil?
M: Nah. I don't think so. I think at worst he was selfish and maybe silly
sometimes.

I think that nicely sums up The Beast.
