Long Island Iced Tea and Irish Cream instead of beer?
What, are you guys rival avatars of the Mystic
Hermaphrodite?
Heh, heh. No flames please. I know it was uncalled-for.
If it makes you feel better, I've developed a shameful
penchant for White Russians ever since The Big Lebowski
came out.
Actually, speaking of that fine film from the Coen
Brothers, it's a nice source of character ideas. It's
laced with the usual Coen Bros' mythical symbolism, like
Walter/"Peter" cutting off the guy's ear when they come
to take The Dude/The Christ away in the parking
lot/garden at Gethsemane -- but it also paints pictures
of some nice Avatars. The Dude is clearly the
Peacemaker, Donnie is a Martyr without a cause, and
Walter is the Judge. Brant is a textbook Necessary
Servant, and his nymphomaniac wife Bunny -- who is
sexually inaccessible to him -- is the WECHBY.
On second thought, The Dude also has strong Masterless
Man overtones -- hence the conversation with Sam Eliot's
cowboy character, possibly a Clergy member. But no, The
Dude seems to be forging his own modern version of the
Saint/Hermit/Pacifist/Bum archetype. Perhaps the
Masterless Man appeared to him in order to confirm that
he wasn't in danger of being ousted.
Matt Norwood [who feels he should come out even for
making mean personal attacks on other list members but
also bringing the thread back on-topic.]
