You just haven't been drinking it at the right time or in the right setting.
1) You're nineteen years old, in college, your hometown girlfriend just
dumped you, you're in the basement of an unofficial fraternity, it's Friday
night. The music is deafening. The naked concrete beneath your feet is
the makeshift dance floor, drain and all. There are uncovered rafters
above your head, with cobwebs in the corners. Nothing has ever been
dusted. You spy the cute woman from your comparative lit class over by the
keg. She's wearing a halter top. You approach. She gestures to you with
an empty cup. Yes, a beer would taste good right about now.
2) You're twenty-nine, you've just bought a house, it's July in Missouri
and just being outside feels like sleeping in a giant's armpit. The lawn
-- YOUR lawn -- has gotten long and shaggy, so you break out the brand-new
rechargeable lawnmower you got as a housewarming present and, for the first
time since you were a teenager, you mow the lawn. Only this time it's YOUR
lawn, so you want it to look nice. When you finish, you're covered with
sweat, but you know there's a cold one waiting in the fridge. Your fridge,
with your cold one. It's gonna taste great.
Once you get in the habit, beer drinking becomes easier and easier. But it
all depends on context at first.

Postmodern drinker.
