One on one tree and one on another. One theory is that a rack was suspended
between the two trees and small chunks of bread were allowed to rest there,
defended from birds, until they dried into hard cubes, which were then oiled
and seasoned. Of course, this practice remained among the Indians of the area
and comes down to us through the decades as "croutons."
