They reminded Pythagorus of testicles.  Really.  He chose to die rather than go into a bean field. (He was being chased by a mob for doing the whole idolatry thing, what with the cult and all, and came to the edge of a bean field.  He stayed on the edge and was killed by the mob rather than go near them because he found them disgusting)

That's all from memory, but should be more or less correct.

Did I ever post my idea for a weird cult called the Numbermen, who intermix Pythagorean mysticism, poor kabbalism, and self destructive tendencies, and get some actually (minor, subtle) mystical power?  It was all predicated on the idea that Pythagorus actually ascended as the Mathemetician, or the Geometer, or something.
