There's definitely a joke in there about what men use to

I agree completely.  I was also annoyed at the low level of
points.  I increased my points so that the cop character
can actually have a decent skill in
drive/struggle/firearms/notice and still have a hobby
outside of work.

Not a bad idea.  The person who rolls higher while being
under his/her skill wins?  I'd choose that over "beat the
number by the most" to maintain the "higher is better"
mentality.

Interesting.  So, the formula spells in the book would be a
GM guide?  I probably wouldn't do something like this in my
campaign, but I like the idea.
